Journal Day 3

No homework tonight! :) Rest up for tomorrow, we will be doing some large group work! It will be voice-focused, not movement, so don't worry about what you wear.

Poetry Class!

Hey everyone. Today’s class on poetry really made me think I might like to do a poetry thing or maybe some choral reading for my final performance. I’m not sure what else to do, but message me or tell me in class if you might want to share ideas!

Bildungsroman

Hello everyone,

What a productive day we had in class! There was a lot of talk about coming of age stories (bildungsromans) and the conflict between adult expectations and adults actually modelling those expectations themselves (or not).

Here is a link to a scene from Alice in Wonderland. Pay close attention to her confusion and also the relationship between the two characters. I encourage you to read the comments that other viewers have posted to open your mind to what others are thinking. WHO ahhhhh YOU? Click here.

I realise there are a lot of problematic issues visible in the film such as ETHNOCENTRISM and representation of other cultures and drug use. I hope that all of you are mature enough to be able to deal with this material in an appropriate fashion. Post any questions you have after seeing the movie as a comment and we can further this discussion tomorrow.

First Post

Welcome to your class blog! This blog will be were you put all of your public posts: thoughts, inspiration for the group, helpful links, words of encouragement, constructive criticism, dreams for the group etc.

Please let me know if you have issues being able to access the internet on a regular basis so that I can help you out.

A WORD OF CAUTION: Watch your words. This space functions as an extention of the classroom and holds all the same expectations of behaviour and respect that the classroom holds. This is a saafe space in which all students can express themselves free of harm from myself or the other classmates. Often it is much easier to be harsh with your words online than in person, so please be careful.

This is not a very formal writing space. I expect you to be the mature and articulate students that I know you to be, but feel free to use emoticons :) , abbreviations (lol), and say things like "like um.... you know what I mean guys, right?" Let your thoughts flow without the stress of how "academic" you sound stand in your way. Blogs are a very casual form of social media.

I encourage you all to share whatever you feel is relevant or necessary to the group. Don't forget that we are a team and we grow stronger together!
